SPORTING students jumped through hoops to enjoy a day of fun and games to mark the end of their school year.
Pupils at West Park Academy, Darlington, swapped science for space hoppers and mathematics for multi-sports in a sports day promoting friendship and teambuilding.
Following a parade of pupils waving flags and staff dressed as superheroes, the young athletes took part in a range of fun activities including rocket throwing, dodge ball, shark attack, food frenzy, dress up relay and parachute activation.
Year 6 teaching assistant and lead for PE at West Park Academy Caroline Black said: “It’s really good to be able to get all of the children together for a whole school day of fun and games.
“All of the activities are geared towards inclusivity, co-operation and patience and combine the spirit of the games friendship, passion, determination, honesty, respect and self belief and of course having a great time.
“I hope that today really inspires all of the children to enjoy exercise and to get out and about and stay active over the six weeks summer holidays.”
Keen footballer, runner, swimmer and athlete Jonny Heeley, 10, added: “I love sport; not only does it help keep you fit is also helps if you have any worries – you can really lose yourself in sport give it your all and just have fun”.
