COLLEGE designers are taking an eclectic mix of tailoring with a twist to one of the most prestigious shows of the catwalk calendar.
Talented students from Northallerton School & Sixth Form College have been selected to exhibit their cutting edge design during the popular catwalk extravaganza at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show.
Professional models with do full justice to the A Level and AS Level coursework that has been influenced by the likes of Alexander McQueen, D&G and Downton Abbey.
For Anna Ridings, 18, of Picton, near Thirsk, it will be an opportunity to show off her lady’s trouser suit, a wool blend classically tailored outfit with a modern twist, including screen-printed fabric.
“We started the design in November and it took us until Easter to complete,” said Anna, who hopes to study a fashion degree at Northumbria University before working in the industry.
“Being able to show the outfit at the Great Yorkshire Show is such a privilege and an amazing opportunity that will really help me in the future.”
AS student Louise Fowler will show her Downton Abbey-inspired 1920s flapper dress, the opportunity being reward for the effort she has made hand sewing around 8,000 beads onto the fabric.
“It is such an honour to be able to show our work in front of so many people,” said the 17-year-old, of Northallerton, who also hopes to study fashion at university and work in the industry.
Sally Stephenson is proving to be on-trend after studying the forthcoming autumn collection with her D&G-inspired dungarees.
“I chose to design and create dungarees as they are high fashion for the autumn winter season,” said Sally, 17, of Northallerton
“I have used slub effect material to give them more texture and they are dressed up with extensive floral decoration.”
Northallerton School & Sixth Form College’s head of textiles Linda Breckon said: “All the outfits are wonderfully creative, well thought through and very well made. The students have done extremely well and thoroughly deserve this opportunity to show them off in such a prestigious setting.”
More than 6,000 people are expected to attend the fashion show with the student garments being modelled four times a day from July 12 to 14.
