THREE media students have successfully found their focus after securing university places to study film production.
Darlington College students Tom Singleton, Josh Howard and Alexa Gordon have been offered much sort after places at the University of Salford to read a BA Hons degree in film production.
Currently completing their level 3 extended diplomas in film and TV, they will get the opportunity to study in Salford’s MediaCity, home to countless television and film studios.
Tom, 18, of Catterick Village, who hopes to work as a cinematographer, said: “ This course has been brilliant and I have really enjoyed the practical side of script writing, lighting and editing.”
Josh, 17, of Catterick Garrison, also enjoyed the course, particularly producing a ghost story, complete with green-screen effects, about a haunted theatre which he shot in the Hippodrome. He hopes to be a video editor in the future.
He said: “A lot of people want to go to Salford because it is so close to the ITV and BBC studios so I feel very pleased to be offered a place.”
Alexa, 18, of Darlington, who wants to work behind the camera or in editing, added: “Salford was the first open day I attended and I knew straight away it was the one for me. In the second year we can study in Toronto or Chicago which is exciting.”
Lecturer Karl Oldridge said: “Salford has an incredible reputation and MediaCity is at the heart of the industry. To have three students securing places at the university is a real achievement and vindicates what we strive to achieve at Darlington College.”
