PUPILS took their parents on a journey of discovery across bridges, dodging dinosaurs and beating the black death in an innovative approach to learning.
Children showcased a term’s work at an inaugural ‘Stay and Learn’ event staged at Marchbank Free School, Darlington.
Parents and guardians spent the afternoon enjoying a wow-factor performance as pupils presented their work through plays, presentations and model-making.
For the past term, children have been studying ‘flow’, including rivers and bridges, dinosaurs and The Plague.
One group went on an exciting hunt for dinosaur eggs in the school’s forest school, while others showed off their model bridges, as parents watched pupils recreate the horrors of the Great Plague in a macabre play.
Head of School Tess Wright said: “We wanted a wow event to encourage parental engagement and provide an informal setting for teachers, pupils and parents to come together.
“Marchbank prides itself on offering an immersive learning experience through topic-based learning, which engages pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and sparks their learning in a creative way.
“The feedback we received from parents was fantastic with many recognising just how much their children had developed this term, progress which everyone is very proud of.”
