CREATIVE students have been asked to capture the fun of the fair in a kaleidoscope of colour for charity.
First year graphics students from Darlington College were urged to be fun, vibrant and different as they were commissioned to provide the marketing material for the Mayor’s Charity Ball for the 15th year running.
They have until December 21 to let their imaginations run riot and produce the imagery for the annual extravaganza.
Darlington’s mayor Jan Taylor has chosen the theme ‘All the Fun of the Fair’ for the assignment to promote her ball on April 20, which will raise funds for three good causes.
This year the proceeds of a year of fund-raising will be divided to help the much-loved St Teresa’s Hospice, Family Help women’ refuge and agencies which work with young people with mental health issues.
Coun Taylor told students: “I am from Darlington and have lived here most of my life. The exciting thing I remember from my childhood is when the fair came to town. It was colourful, lively and fun and while we will have fun at the ball, we will also raise a lot of money for three very good causes.
“I would like your designs to be a kaleidoscope of colour and I am really looking forward to seeing your ideas, the best of which will be used to promote the event.”
Darlington College tutor Pippa Eeles said: “This is the first live project for these students who only started the course in September. There is no better test than working on a genuine commission where they will have to consider the wishes of a client and work to a tight deadline. I’ve every confidence in them rising to the challenge.”
