YOUNG athletes sprinted, jumped, threw and tugged their way to glory as they exhibited their sporting prowess to parents.
The houses of Gilbert, Drake, Grenville and Raleigh vied for honours on the track and in the field at the annual Prep Sports day.
In front of a crowd of parents, family and friends, Years 3 to 6 battled it out in the tug of war, 50m, 80m, 100m, 200m, 600m, 800m races, 4x100m, 400m and shuttle relays, long jump, high jump and throwing competitions.
After a close-fought contest, the winning house of Gilbert was presented the coveted Queen’s Cup by Barnard Castle Preparatory School headmistress Laura Turner.
Mrs Turner said: “The feelings of healthy competition engendered here at Prep School ensure the children have fun, gain invaluable experience of winning and losing and develop a sense of motivation and drive.
“It was clear to see that they were striving to do their very best supported unreservedly and enthusiastically by classmates, teachers, friends and family which resulted in a fantastic spectacle of sport and enjoyment.”
