PROUD pupils have paraded their new uniforms as an academy introduces school blazers for the very first time.

Students at St Gregory’s Catholic Academy, Stockton, part of The Carmel Education Trust, have returned to the classroom suited and booted with a brand new look for the school year.

Replacing their old blue sweatshirts and grey trousers and skirts with smart new purple blazers and ties, purple jumpers and black trousers and skirts, the 251 primary pupils filed in to begin the new term at school.

Temporary head of school Josie Wilson said: “Our students look fantastic and very smart but even more importantly they all look very proud to wear their new uniform.

“When you look smart it helps to increase your sense of self worth and you are more likely to act smart too.

“Parents have also told us that they love the new look and changing our uniform is just one of the many ways that we are aiming to raise aspirations and invigorate the image of St Gregory’s for the future.”

Year 4 student Dion Earl, eight, said: “I didn’t think I’d like the new uniform at first but the blazer is really comfortable and I feel very smart and grown up.”

Janielle Perez, seven, added: “I really like the uniform especially the colour and all of the secret pockets and zips that I’ve found in my blazer.”
