A STUDENT musician has won her school's performing arts festival with an original song she wrote just the weekend before the final.
Talented Bronwyn Riani put the finishing touches to her song, The Lovers from your Fairytale, during study periods in the final hours before the competition at Emmanuel College, in Gateshead.
The sixth former impressed the judges with her song-writing, guitar playing and vocals.
Drama teacher and member of the judging panel Paula Wells told her: "I loved your vocal dexterity. When you're a solo artist it's really difficult but you performed to the audience and really held their attention."
Runner-up in the finals was Ben Marshall with his version of Fly Me to The Moon.
All the finalists secured their place and the chance to represent their house in the finals after a series of heats.
The range of acts performing to a packed lecture of sixth formers ranged from year seven dancer Emma Padgett and magician Drew Norris, Alexander Walls and his group of musicians and singers who performed an original song by him, and a recital of Beowulf by Matthew Fairhurst.
Vice principal Gareth Steer said: "The judges and audience got to see nine very difference performances of a very high standard. It takes a lot of guts to come and perform, especially in front of our most senior students.
"All the acts were welcomed onto the stage and went off with an even bigger round of applause from the appreciative audience."
